Super Retail Group’s Sales Increase After New Store Openings

Super Retail Group’s net income declined despite higher sales amid new stores opening in the 2024 fiscal year.
The group’s net profit fell 9 percent to $240 million (US$163 million) from $263 million while sales rose 2 percent to $3.9 billion from $3.8 billion in the 12 months ended June 29, 2024.
Supercheap Auto’s sales grew 3 percent to $1.5 billion, with a like-for-like sales growth of 2 percent. Its auto maintenance, including lubricants, car detailing, and power, emerged as its strongest category, signifying an uplift in do-it-yourself activities.
The auto parts retailer’s online sales went up 6 percent to $121 million, accounting for 8 percent of its total sales. Click & Collect represented 78 percent of online sales.
Supercheap Auto opened 11 stores but closed one, ending the period with 159 stores.
Similarly, Boating, Camping & Fishing’s (BFC) sales grew 5 percent to $879 million despite a 1 percent dip in like-for-like sales. The company saw its biggest fishing sales during the fiscal year.
Its online sales increased 9 percent to $102 million, accounting for 12 percent of the brand’s total sales, with Click & Collect sharing 56 percent of online sales.
BCF ended the period with 162 stores after opening seven and closing two stores.
Macpac’s sales also climbed 3 percent to $222 million, while like-for-like sales up 8 percent in New Zealand but down 4 percent in Australia due to the milder weather in winter.
Its online sales rose by 1 percent to $39 million, representing 18 percent of total sales. Click & Collect shared 16 percent of online sales.
The outdoor recreational equipment retailer ended the year with 97 stores after opening nine stores and closing one.
Meanwhile, Rebel’s sales declined 1 percent to $1.29 billion, which includes a one-off impact of revenue deferral of $7 million relating to its new points-based club member loyalty program.
The sports goods retailer’s like-for-like sales fell 2 percent, reflecting lower transaction volumes and average transaction value.
Rebel saw its performance sports as the best performing category due to the strength in football and licensed apparel sales.
Its online sales jumped 12 percent to $222 million and shared 17 percent to total sales. Click & Collect accounted for 28 percent of online sales.
“The outlook for the consumer in the year ahead remains uncertain given ongoing cost-of-living pressure on household budgets. We will continue to manage our costs effectively while investing in the business for future growth,” said Anthony Heraghty, CEO and managing director of Super Retail Group.
“The group’s customer value proposition, the strength of our brands, and the size of our customer loyalty club membership base means Super Retail Group remains well positioned to perform in retail market conditions where customers are carefully managing their spending and prioritising value-for-money purchases.”
Supercheap Auto’s total sales grew 6 percent and like-for-like sales went up 4 percent, while Rebel saw 1 percent total sales and like-for-like sales growth.
BCF’s total sales and like-for-like sales increased 15 percent and 9 percent, respectively.
Lastly, BCF’s total sales increased 5 percent and like-for-like sales rose 3 percent.
